The Haydn Philharmonic will present Schubert’s “Symphony No. 5 B-Dur D485 30,” Mozart’s “Parto Parto” and “Io Ti Lascio,” Vivaldi’s “Domine Deus” and “L’Olimpiade,” Handel’s “Lascia Ch’io Pianga” and Haydn’s “Symphony No. 88.”
The Haydn Philharmonic — orchestra in residence at Esterhazy Palace, Austria — was founded by Adam Fischer in 1987 as the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic out of members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Hungarian National Philharmonic. It was Fischer’s intention to bring together the best musicians from these two countries to musically overcome the border by playing the works of Joseph Haydn.
Outside the Esterhazy Palace, the orchestra has made a name for itself thanks to numerous tours and performances throughout Europe and the United States, Japan, South Korea and China. Invitations to various musical events, such as the London BBC Proms or the New York Mostly Mozart Festival, are proof of the ensemble’s development as an internationally highly acclaimed orchestra.
Between 1987 and 2001, the orchestra has recorded with Fischer all of Haydn’s symphonies for Nimbus records; the recordings of Haydn’s symphonies No. 40-54 earned the accolade of “Best of the Year” from the established music magazine Gramophone. Between 2004 and 2008, Fischer and the Haydn Philharmonic re-recorded Haydn’s “London Symphonies” for the Dabringhaus & Grimm label in surround sound. Recordings of this set were awarded in 2006 and 2008 with the prestigious “Echo Klassik” award. The recording of Mozart’s clarinet concerto with Sharon Kam received a Diapason D’or in 2011.
